EPA’s Water Contamination Investigation Halted In Texas After Range Resources Protest: via HuffPost http://huff.to/ZWSRO0 Once again an Obama agency folds a winning hand under corporate pressure. The only regulator that had a pair, his interior secretary, is leaving. What we need are metaphorically heads on spikes at the palace gates so that corporations know not to cross the line. Obama spent four years as an apologist for Bush Jr, with a soft focus version of the same policies. Corporations know what will happen if they cross the line. Nothing. Except when they get caught red handed in criminal activity. Then they are allowed to surrender 5% of their criminal profit without charges or admission of wrongdoing. Yeah that sends a message. I would have seized HSBC and prosecuted it from top to bottom. Get proof that fracking is damaging a residential neighborhood, not a study, proof of damage by fracking, and then back down because the corporation refuses to cooperate with some acedemic study (note the likely quality of said study if you aren’t allowed to investigate any known damage by fracking). The administration backs down. I would get an injunction and freeze their assets until it could be shown the corporation had enough assets secured to pay for the damage and shut down all their operations for review. Iif their response to clear liability is belligerence you can’t trust anything they do has been done right. Inspect everything on every site before each gets green lit again.
