The embargo never made any sense, presumably former landowners wanting to preserve their rights was part of it.  It was never good policy regardless of the motivation.

Places that stay isolated don’t progress, they stagnate.  Sanctions have diametrically the opposite from the desired effect, entrenching whatever we don’t like by insolating it from outside influence, and ensuring a one sided diet of ideas.
